'Pressure Cooker' is a relentless, mind-bending emotional roller coaster ride for sixteen aggressive wannabe 'Rock Star' male and female Chefs
from across Canada. The pace is frantic and the personalities are driven and diverse. There's no shortage of ego here!
It is the most brutal elimination culinary "black box" (unknown ingredients) competition ever staged. Chefs find themselves confronting a punishing cooking gauntlet riddled with emotional skill-testing trip-wires and ruthless timeframes.
Shot on location at Niagara College's Culinary Institute in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, each episode features a series of cooking rounds using foodstuffs from across Ontario. Competing Chefs are formed into teams through random selection. Each team elects an Executive Chef who makes all final decisions. Each episode is a 'Match' and requires teams to prepare three to nine dishes - some matched with VQA wines, in a very short timeframe.
All dishes are judged by a panel of three highly qualified Tasting Judges
. Teams are also judged by a squad of Kitchen Judges who overlook kitchen behaviour and culinary malpractice. When the 'Match' is over and one or more chefs have to be eliminated, the Kitchen Judges are saddled with the uneviable job of dismissal. A difficult job filled with indignation and regret.
Through nine, one-hour episodes, 'Pressure Cooker' is nothing less than a scarring marathon that tests culinary talents, emotional fortitude, mental agility and physical stamina.
'Pressure Cooker' delivers a hard-hitting, relentless insight into the turbulent culinary world as it's never been seen before. It is as poignant as it is chaotic, a compelling insight into Chefs and their unbridled passion, dedication, resolve and commitment for perfection.
'Pressure Cooker' TV is on SUN TV every Sunday night for nine weeks starting Sunday, July 5, 2009, from 6pm to 7pm, and on MEN TV Monday's at 5:30pm. This is a re-broadcast of Season One.
